Be triumphant with Nadine Sutherland

Jun 9, 2023

After winning the Tastee Talent Contest title in Kingston in the year 1979, the ever-effervescent Nadine Sutherland delivers Triumphant to the musical landscape.

The latest single, released on Friday, June 2, sums up her life to date with a kind of “been there, done that” theme.

The empowering new single hears Sutherland’s signature vocals, paired with lyrics of motivation.

Sutherland is very open about what her life’s work in the music industry has taught her and each step of the way, “I use it as a guide to inspire my next step,” she said.

.

Triumphant is to make people bop,” Sutherland emphasises. “I wanted a song that makes people move.”

The project is co-written and co-produced by Sutherland with Steven “Lenky” Marsden and Lowell “Sly” Dunbar, “two of the most acclaimed producers anywhere in the world,” she declares.

Marsden is noted for the Diwali rhythm, while Dunbar is the world-renowned drummer who has been in the business for 56 years.

Having emerged onto the music scene at a young age, and being nurtured by Bob Marley, Sutherland’s career, spanning over three decades, has been phenomenal with a dedicated fan base.

She continues to connect with the youthful audience as a mainstay in Jamaican music.

“I think I enjoy a good mix of the young audience, Action with Terror Fabulous, “has the Tik Tok generation rocking all the time”.

Sutherland hopes to collaborate with Beyonce at some point as she thinks their dance/performance styles connect.

She adds that Babyface, Wicked, Chatty Chatty still enjoy regular rotation on dance play lists.

Her Pass the Mic appearance with Terror Fabulous in 2022, hosted by DJ Cassidy, remains a much-talked-about highlight.

“The single before this, Queen, released a year ago, was a sombre reggae ballad… so the upbeat, up-tempo song was due,” shared Sutherland, who has bookings from July to December with shows in the USA (Rhode Island, Harlem) and on the Jamrock Cruise. She also has shows booked for the Independence break.

Accompanying the release of the single is an official music video, directed by Brittany Franklin and shot in Brooklyn, New York.

Triumphant will be available on all major streaming platforms and the music video can be viewed on YouTube.

Her advice to those in the business is work out, dance, and do voice training when possible: “You should see yourself as a work-in-progress at all times,” she noted.
