Growing up in Mozambique, singer Ras Haitrm remembers listening to the music of reggae legends Peter Tosh and Bob Marley.
“Their messages resonated with me and from an early age, I realised that music would play a dominant role in my life,” he shared.
Ras Haitrm (real name Rui Paulo Matavele) spreads his message on Go And Tell The World, his latest song. Taken from his album of the same name, it was recorded in Kingston with the Firehouse Crew, and launched here last November.
Go And Tell The World was serviced to local radio stations three weeks ago.
“I’m happy that my song is playing in Jamaica because I want the Jamaican people to connect with my music. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, you need to make an impact in Jamaica as long as you are a reggae artiste,” he said. “There’s a strong link between Africa and Jamaica that can never be broken. Reggae is massive in my country, Mozambique, and other parts of Africa.”
Ras Haitrm’s seventh album, Go And Tell The World was recorded at Anchor Studios. It is produced by George Miller, drummer of the Firehouse Crew.
“It was the first album that I’ve recorded in Jamaica, and it’s my best so far. I had to push myself to the highest level while working with George and the other members of the Firehouse Crew on this project. It was a great experience,” said Ras Haitrm.
